A fun day trip from insanediego is to head south of the border into Mexico for some exploring and shopping fun. I go to Mexico almost weekly and love experiencing the culture, the people and the food. When you cross the border in to Tijuana you are entering the largest city south of the border on the Baja peninsula. It is part of the San Diego-Tijuana urban agglomeration and creates a large southern California megalopolis. Tijuana is the 6^th largest city in Mexico and influences many things in the way of life south of our border. Some people drive south and some park in the many parking lots In San Ysidro and walk across the border. There are also many shuttle vans that will pick you up and then return you later that day or the next if you decide to stay the night. One of my favorite trip’s south is to go to Rosarito Beach which is about 30 minutes south of the border. Rosarito is a quaint little community with a lot to see. I like staying at the Rosarito Beach Hotel a wonderful full-service resort in Rosarito Beach. It’s a beautiful resort right on the beach and it is very gringo friendly. Rosarito beach has much to see and a lot of shopping. The Rosarito Beach hotel has their own shuttle service that picks you up north of the border in San Ysidro and returns you safe and sound back across the border. Some of my favorites are “Ajenjo”, an amazing restaurant south of the Rosarito Beach Hotel where Roberto the chef studied at the Cordon Bleu in Paris France and his food is amazing. Just north of the hotel is a little California style restaurant called “Susannah’s” a quaint little joint with wonderful cuisine and atmosphere. Bettys Burgers has the best burger joint south of the border and my favorite there is the Blue Cheese Berger, and their fries are to die for. And a trip to Rosarito wouldn’t be complete without a stop at “Mercado Del Mar” a little bodega market that has one of the best selections of alcohol south of the border, I never miss this one.
